Sri Lanka's Quarantine-Free Bubble Tourism: A New Way to Travel
Skip the hotel isolation: visitors can now move within approved bio-bubble zones under a revised tourism model.
Sri Lanka has shifted its tourism model from mandatory 14-day hotel quarantine to a quarantine-free bubble tourism system. Visitors can now move within approved bio-bubble zones and properties without the previously required hotel isolation, making the travel experience more flexible while maintaining health oversight.
Here's how it works: pre-departure and on-arrival Covid-19 testing remains mandatory. You'll stay at approved hotels and visit attractions within the designated bubble—but you won't be confined to a single hotel room. Movement is permitted within the bubble zone, allowing you to experience multiple locations, eat at various restaurants, and see attractions, all while health protocols remain in place.
For travellers, this is a significant improvement. You can actually experience Sri Lanka rather than sitting in a hotel waiting out quarantine. The bubble concept balances accessibility with safety, making tourism feasible while the health situation stabilizes. Check with your airline and accommodation provider for the current list of approved bubble zones and properties before booking.
