Sri Lanka Launches Visa-Free Travel for Seven Countries
As of November 27, nationals from China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan can enter Sri Lanka visa-free.
Sri Lanka's Cabinet has approved a pilot visa-free programme, effective from November 27, 2023 through March 31, 2024. Nationals of China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan now have visa-free entry via a free Electronic Travel Authorization—a move designed to boost tourist arrivals during the peak season.
For Sri Lankan travellers, this is a reminder of how visa policies shift. If you're planning a trip to any of these countries, stay alert to whether their governments introduce reciprocal visa-free or eased-entry programmes. Travel policies move quickly, and being aware of changes can save you money and planning time.
