Plan Your Year-End Escape: Holiday Travel in the Peak Season
Booking Christmas and New Year travel? Here's what to know about timing, planning windows, and avoiding the chaos.
November is the month to book. December and early January are peak travel season for Sri Lankans heading abroad—flights fill up fast, and prices climb. If Christmas and New Year travel is on your mind, lock down your flights and accommodation by the end of November. Last-minute bookings in December often mean fewer choices and higher costs.
What to plan ahead
- Passport validity: Check your passport has at least 6 months left (some countries require this).
- Visas: Apply now if your destination needs one—processing can take 2–4 weeks.
- Travel insurance: Lock it in before you go, especially over the holidays when medical services are strained.
- Accommodation: Book early, especially if you're traveling during 25 Dec–2 Jan.
The holiday season feels rushed, but planning now gives you breathing room. You'll fly calmer, arrive better rested, and actually enjoy your break instead of scrambling for the last available seat.
