IATA Travel Pass: The Digital Health Documentation System Reshaping Air Travel
A new app aims to simplify how travellers manage Covid-19 test and vaccine proof against border rules.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has introduced the IATA Travel Pass, a digital app designed to let air travellers securely manage Covid-19 test results and vaccine certificates against destination entry requirements. The system is currently being tested with Emirates and other airlines, starting with flights from the UAE.
The concept is straightforward: instead of printing or juggling digital files of test results and vaccination certificates, the Travel Pass consolidates this documentation in one mobile app. Travellers upload proof of testing or vaccination, and the app stores it securely. When checking in, you present your phone to the airline staff—faster, cleaner, and less prone to lost or damaged papers.
If you're travelling internationally, this tool may become standard over the coming months as more airlines and destinations adopt it. It's worth downloading when it becomes available in your region. For now, maintaining physical or PDF copies of test results and vaccination certificates remains the safest approach, especially if you're flying with an airline that hasn't yet integrated the system.
