Fully Vaccinated? Sri Lanka's New Arrival Rules Just Got Easier
Vaccinated travellers no longer face strict quarantine; a short hotel stay and rapid testing replaces it.
Sri Lanka updated its arrival protocol on September 4, 2021 for fully vaccinated travellers. If your second dose was at least 14 days before arrival, you skip traditional quarantine. Instead, you'll complete a short hotel stay while you wait for your Day 1 PCR test result, followed by a second test on Day 7. This is a major relief compared to earlier lockdown-style restrictions.
The shift reflects both vaccination confidence and economic reality: tourism and business travel recover faster when arrivals aren't locked away for two weeks. If you're planning to return home to Sri Lanka or visit family, check that your vaccines are on the approved list and that your timing meets the 14-day threshold. Requirements can change, so confirm closer to your travel date.
