Family Travel Tips for Sri Lankans Flying Abroad
Fly with children confidently—from pre-flight prep to managing jet lag, here's what experienced parents know.
Flying with children adds complexity, but thousands of Sri Lankan families travel successfully every year. The key is preparation. Well-prepared kids are happy kids, and happy children make for a pleasant flight for everyone in the cabin around you.
Before You Fly
- Book flights during children's sleep hours if possible; a sleeping child is a happy traveller
- Pack a comfortable change of clothes and snacks in your carry-on, never in checked luggage
- Bring new small toys or books they haven't seen before for in-flight entertainment
- Practice going through security and teach children what to expect so airports feel less overwhelming
During the flight, bring ear plugs or child-friendly headphones, encourage movement every couple of hours, and stay hydrated. After landing, manage jet lag by maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, exposing children to natural light at appropriate times, and avoiding screen time in the first day or two. Family travel is more enjoyable when everyone feels prepared, supported, and included in the adventure.
