Ethiopian Airlines Trials Digital Health Credentials on Long-Haul Routes
Ethiopian Airlines begins testing IATA Travel Pass on Addis Ababa routes to North America and Europe, expanding the digital credential system's reach.
Starting 25 April 2021, Ethiopian Airlines began trialling the IATA Travel Pass on long-haul routes connecting Addis Ababa to Washington DC, Toronto, London, and returning from Toronto. The trial represents a significant expansion of the digital health-credential system to major intercontinental routes—a sign that IATA's vision for standardised digital documentation is gaining traction among major carriers.
For Sri Lankan passengers routing through Addis Ababa (a major East African hub), this trial means your COVID-19 documentation can travel with you digitally across airlines and borders. As more carriers like Ethiopian adopt the standard, the friction of health document verification at check-in continues to ease.
