Emirates Adds a Third Daily Flight on the Dubai–Colombo Route

From 1 December 2022, Emirates increased its Dubai–Colombo service to three daily flights, adding an extra direct rotation to its existing direct flight and a service routed via Malé, Maldives. The move was a direct response to recovering tourism demand to Sri Lanka and rising travel capacity between Sri Lanka and the Gulf.

More flights on this route benefit Sri Lankan travellers heading out to the Gulf, Europe, or beyond via Dubai. Extra frequency means better scheduling (you can choose morning or afternoon departures), more seats, and typically more competitive fares. Dubai remains the primary hub for onwards connections to North Africa, Europe, and North America—adding flights from Colombo makes these routes more accessible and affordable.

Capacity growth on this scale signals confidence in the region's recovery. When an airline of Emirates's scale commits to extra flights, it's betting on sustained demand—which usually means pricing stays rational and seats remain available even during peak season. For Sri Lankans planning travel to the Gulf or connecting onward, this was welcome news.
